DAATC

Share

This article is by the Child Development Institute and I found it on opposingviews.com

It offers some practical tips for parents that may be worrying on how their child will manage their allergies while at camp and not in their own regular enviroment.  Worth a read for any parent.

Really this is a must read!  It is an article that explains allergies in basic language.  How they occur, triggers, predisposition to allergies, testing and treatment.  I liked it and hope you do too.

It is from The South African Journal of Natural Medicine and by Jenni Davies

An App for Dairy Intolerance Sufferers!

DAATC

Share

Well there really is an App for everything!  I came across this and thought it was a brilliant idea.  An App has been developed for the iPhone that tells you what foods on the menus are dairy free in all the big fast food chains.  I assume the information would be suitable for Ireland too, as a lot of the US fast food chains are here but even great for holidays.  Any parent of a food intolerant child or indeed adult with food intolerances will appreciate the helpfullness of this App!  It really would take a lot of stress out of eating out.  I found it on prMac website

Coeliac Disease or a Gluten Intolerance??

DAATC

Share

I am allergy and intolerance testing 20years now.  From the very early years we were finding people showing to have Gluten Intolerance.  We would advise them on a Gluten Free Diet and they would instantly feel 100% better.  But yet when going to their medical practitioners they were testing negative for Coeliac Disease.  This is when we realised that it was possible to be intolerant but not a full blown Coeliac.

This article is based on similar conclusion.   Over the years this has been increasingly accepted as the norm.

Persistent Headaches.

DAATC

This is an answer to a medical question on Doctor NDTV and was posted by Dr Rajas Deshpande.  Although a short answer it does answer the question well.  Why would you get persistent headaches?  It highlights allergies as a main possible factor.

Gardening Tips for the Allergic Gardener.

I found this article fascinating and full of great tips and ideas for the allergic gardener.  Really, if gardening is your passion and if you have allergies then this is a MUST read.  It goes into great detail as to which plants are less likely to cause problems with pollens and even down to which of these plants will grow best in which parts of the garden.  It is written by Adriana Barton and is from the Globe and Mail.  Very informative.

Device determines genetic predisposition to drug allergies

DAATC

Share

Scientists have sucessfully tested a prototype device that they have developed to determine whether patients are genetically disposed to suffering allergy adverse reactions to perscription medications.  Early study results are looking good.

What a wonderful tool it would be!  Here’s hoping it is available soon.  It would reduce or stop the suffering of so many people who suffer terrible reactions to medications.

An Allergy or Intolerance??

DAATC

Share

This article would view allergies and intolerances in a similar way to ourselves in this clinic.  It is amazing how many symptoms that people have and just ignore or put up with and never realise that they are allergy related and that things can be improved greatly by identifying what exactly is causing the problem and excluding them at least for a short period.

Did you know that allergy and intolerance symptoms can include:

  • Wind, bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, reflux, vomitting, heartburn, food repeating,
  • Blocked nose, runny nose, phlegm in throat, sinus problems, hay fever, asthma,
  • Migraine, headaches, joint pains, joint swelling,
  • Acne, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, Acne rosacea, hives, rashes, swelling (face, lips, etc),
  • Recurring cystitis, recurring thrush,

An allergy is where someone has strong, usually instant reactions to an allergen, while an intolerance is often a person can tolerate small amounts of the substance before it actually causes a problem.  This makes it very difficult for the person themselves to identify what is causing the problem.  As they don’t react obviously to it every time they take it.  But over time an intolerance can be just as problematic and uncomfortable as an allergy.

This article is written Ingrid Pincott from the North Island Midweek.
